Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the personal and administrative expenditures of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, highlighting the principles and practices that shaped the financial framework of the early Islamic state. The article is divided into two main sections: the first discusses the personal expenses of the Prophet ﷺ, while the second examines his administrative and state expenditures. The first section reveals that the personal financial life of the Prophet ﷺ was marked by simplicity, selflessness, and generosity. Whatever wealth came to him was promptly distributed among the needy, guests, and for social welfare, without any inclination toward accumulation or savings. The Prophet ﷺ consistently prioritized the needs of the poor and vulnerable over his own, often enduring hardship while ensuring the well-being of others. His unmatched generosity is evident in numerous instances where he continued to give even when he possessed very little. The second section explores the administrative expenditures and institutional structure established by the Prophet ﷺ. It highlights the management of public funds, allocation of resources such as zakat and khums, and the development of various state functions including judiciary, education, diplomacy, and public welfare. The Prophet ﷺ established an organized administrative system by appointing scribes, governors, judges, and tax collectors, ensuring accountability and efficiency. Diplomatic relations were maintained through envoys and delegations, while educational initiatives included the promotion of literacy and learning foreign languages. The study concludes that the financial and administrative system of the Prophet ﷺ was balanced, transparent, and welfare-oriented, offering a practical and ethical model that remains relevant for contemporary governance and socio-economic justice.
