This study examines the evolution of Baloch ethnic identity in the context of violent conflict by exploring its historical, political, cultural and tribal dimensions. The nature of the paper is qualitative, and many facts of history are evaluated to investigate historical events and situations that had impact on the emergence of Baloch ethnic identity in Baluchistan. This paper uses a combination of two theories: Ethnicity and Identity Construction theory”, and “Social Identity Theory” to address how a cultural identity has been mobilized into collective action and eventually led to ethno nationalist movements. The topic is diverse in nature and dedicated efforts have been made to explain rise of nationalism in Balochistan and effects and causes that ends up in ethno national movements. The empirical analysis demonstrates that both the state and Baloch tribal groups experience forms of ontological insecurity, suggesting that the Balochistan–state conflict cannot be understood solely in terms of economic grievances or relative deprivation; rather, it is fundamentally rooted in a broader social conflict involving identity, belonging, and competing perceptions of security.
